Lots of fun things!

Hola!! So ER continues to go well - had a really fun shift yesterday (Labor Day). I worked 6:30-14:30. Spend the first 3hrs with 2 of the residents suturing up a guy's legs. He had 3 huge gashes going all the way down to muscle, so we each took a gash and went to town!

Last weekend we had a GREAT weekend! Friday night we had a house full of guests - after Brendan got off he headed to Moline to get our friend Greg who had flown in from Florida. Shortly after I got home Laura and Kent got here and Brendan & Greg got back. We all headed to John's Grocery, which is little old school grocery place here in town that has a whole beer room and big walk-in cooler. Kent hadn't ever been there (and you just have to see it if you are a beer drinker) and we needed some beer for the night! We got some good stuff - in particular 'tis the season for pumpkin beer, so I got me some O'Fallon Pumpkin Beer. I was turned on to this last year by the beer guy at Dirty John's (what John's Grocery is known by around here - apparently it used to be near a school and was so-called because it sold dirty magazines). Anyway, he said it "tastes like pumpkin pie right down to the buttery crust", and by gosh, he's totally right! After that we headed home, ordered some pizza, drank our beers while watching some football. As we watched we noticed it was getting a bit hot in the house (it was like 95 degrees and super humid Friday). Yeah, turns out the A/C went out at our place. So we had like 7 people here in an 86 degree house. Oh well, the beer was cold, and we brought down some fans to cool it off! After dinner Laura and I decided to head to starbucks to get a pound of coffee for Saturday morning (it is just WAY better if you buy it from them and have them grind it with their grinder), which i learned is because they have a burr grinder which crushes the beans rather than the common blade grinder most people have at home. Anyway, after weeks of suffering through seriously bad coffee bc i was feeling cheap when i bought that big cart load of groceries a few weeks back, I didn't want to subject guests to such a fate! So we headed to starbucks around 9PM. Well, we made it there, bought my pound of pike place, got in the car, and wham-o, wouldn't start! It had enough power to work the lights and such but it wouldn't turn over. The boys came and rescued us in Laura & kent's mini van, and luckily the civic jump started right away. Saturday we had some great coffee (it seriously was worth the fiasco!) then tailgated for awhile,

went to the game,

got drenched in the rain,

which was a great time actually as we had waterproof coats and so weren't cold at all!! We left just before the rain delay started! We got home and everyone grabbed towels and stripped off their wet stuff in a separate area of the house then we watched some football in warm dry clothes!! The good part of the rain was the fact that it cooled the house off!!! haha!! After it quit raining and the football crowds had cleared, Laura and Kent headed home and the rest of us (headed by our friend Jaren) headed to WalMart to get a new battery for the civic. We got back and Jaren put it in while Greg timed him:

He didn't set any pit crew records, but he did get it in in under 5 minutes, which I thought was pretty darn good! Thank you Honda for designing a car with an easily accessible battery!

After my car was again functional I headed to DSM for the world's cutest baby shower. Sunday afternoon I went over to Karlee's for Kat's baby shower (greg's wife). It was the cutest shower EVER. Actually the most sophisticated. The theme was Chanel/Parisian chic. And Karlee outdid herself. It was wonderful, with croissant sandwiches and french cheeses and sparkling pink lemonade with champagne and the cutest most DELICIOUS cake EVER!! Such a great time!! And the mama-to-be looked stunning in her tight little black dress!! Headed back Sunday night because I had to work Monday morning, and that brings our post full circle!!

The last (and most) exciting thing of late is the newest O'Shea...dum duh duh dum!

Wrigley Anne

That's right, folks, we are dog owners!! I don't have time to write much, but the quick version is that she's a 5yr old Wheaten terrier. We got her from a friend of Brendan's sister. They got her as a puppy and did a WONDERFUL job raising her (she's SO SO SO well trained and the sweetest thing ever!), but with 2 young kids just didn't have the time to take her on lots of walks and such anymore. Soooooo, she came to live with us on Monday!! We are all getting used to one another, but we already love her! Look for lots more updates on our newest addition!!
